Course Description: This course provides a study on the phenomenon of global terrorism, from the difficulty of establishing a conceptual definition of terrorism to the different approaches (i.e. critical, behavioral, psychological, sociological, etc.) used to tackle the issue. It begins with an overview on the history of terrorism, then delves into orthodox approaches, such as the manner in which state political political operators and public security forces interpret terrorism. Critical approaches and the relationship between terrorist practices and the media, state terrorism, and counter-terrorism tactics, are also covered.
