Course Description: This graduate level course analyzes the texts and authors representative of the main theoretical aspects and most relevant critical contributions in literature and culture in the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. It discusses the assumptions that govern the literary and cultural studies in contemporary society including: deconstruction, decentering, and reversal of values; the aesthetic to the ethical-political-cultural; disciplinary, transdisciplinary, and post-disciplinary; emphasis on intellectual and academic responsibility-- the politicization of theory. This course looks at the preliminary theoretical framework to identify the state of art in literary and cultural fields of study. It examines difficulties and challenges in the area of knowledge.
