Course Description: This course discusses basic concepts, models, and techniques that allow for effective analysis, design, and evaluation of interactive computer systems. Topics include: user-system communication; designer-user communication; cognitive engineering and semiotics of interactive systems; styles and paradigms of interaction-- graphical interfaces, direct manipulation, icons, and visual languages; modeling interfaces-- scenariation, task models, user models, and interaction models; implementation of interface design-- storyboarding and prototype interfaces and tools to support construction of interfaces; evaluation of interactive systems-- inspection of testing with users; ethical aspects related to users; accessibility-- interfaces of mobile devices; universal usability.
