Course Description: This course provides a sociological study of the family as both a unit and as an institution, examining concepts of the role and place of the family institution in society, while also highlighting differences by class, gender, and ethnic-racial affiliations. Topics covered include: internal family relations and reflections on basic social relations within society; socializing functions of family; family education and social control; family and survival strategies.
