Course Description: This course explores the relationship between sociology and art as a means to better understand society. The course examines some key concepts of sociology as a science, its emergence of the nineteenth century and the changes in the field that occurred through the twentieth century. It discusses the idea of art as a result of collective life or as a means of conditioning the social environment; Other topics discussed include the concepts of ideology, modernity and postmodernity, cultural industries and mass culture, domination and emancipation, society of the spectacle, and the network society.
