Course Description: This course provides an analytical overview of what constitutes key dimensions of economics of development in today‚Äôs world. While the emphasis is put more on practical than theoretical side, analytical tools from microeconomics, macroeconomics and enonometrics are utilized in order to gain a deeper understanding of economic development. The course starts by looking at post-WW II evolution of the history of thought in development economics, followed by rigorous analysis of actual development policies promoted by the World Bank, microeconomic treatment of poverty and inequality theory, and macroeconomic analysis of growth and open economy. The second half of the semester is devoted to more theme specific issues; including natural resource management, human capital (education and health), role of institutions, and effectiveness of aid.
