Course Description: | This course offers a broad historical view of the Vietnam War. Alongside the conflict itself, it also considers the events leading up to the war, the Cold War context, how the war unfolded and ultimately ended, American decision-making, the long-term ramifications in the United States, its cultural manifestation in American cinema, music, and photography, and the Vietnamese perspective. This course uses lectures on specific themes and a broad selection of literature to analyze diverse viewpoints. In tutorial, students discuss literature, documentaries, and three feature films about the Vietnam War. Student assessment consists of an essay and a final exam. |
