Course Description: This is an advanced Chinese reading course designed for students who have already completed 2000 Chinese language class-hours and know over 3500 Chinese vocabulary. It requires students to read Chinese articles fluently without reference books, to understand general metaphorical meanings, and to know the difference between Chinese and native language of the students. Focus is on how to grasp the theme of the article and how to correctly understand key sentences. Emphasis is also placed on expanding and refining vocabulary as well as examining rhetorical devices used to improve writing. The teaching method is mainly class practice. Students are required to finish reading within a limited time in the class and answer related questions about the reading with teacher’s instructions.
