Course Description: This advanced Chinese language course is for students who have completed at least two years of previous Chinese language study. The curriculum focuses on topical training and uses a variety of newspaper articles to provide listening and speaking practice. Students are expected to have a vocuabulary of approximately 5000 words upon completion of this course. The main texts are reports and editorials from newspaper in Taiwan, suitable for learners of intermediate level and above. The texts are presented in the format as they originally appear in newspapers so the learners see the printing style of Chinese newspapers. The variety of headings helps the learners learn with the keywords. The title covers all types of journalistic writing. Each lesson has the main text, vocabulary items (with annotation and example), proper nouns, sentence patterns, a variety of exercises, and additional reading for extended practice. Phonetic transcription is provided in both traditional symbols and Hanyu Pinyin systems.
