Course Description: This course applies a critical appraisal; through selected readings and classroom discussion facilitated by experts, a focus on interrelationships of economic conditions, partnerships, funding and the politics; of global issues such as: transnational migration, refugees, trafficking, international human rights and public health, international perspectives on equity, health & foreign policy, global health: local issues of disparities in access to essential services, gender and security. The course includes a week of residential fieldwork where students are assigned observers, within a humanitarian or community based non-governmental organization (NGO), on the Thai-Myanmar Border, which works with border populations on number of social, economic and health issues.
