Course Description: This course covers the practical application of engineering mechanics and mechanical vibrations. Topics include 1) Plane kinematics and kinetics of rigid bodies; equations of motion, work and energy, impulse and momentum; 2) Introduction to mechanical vibration; 3) Free and forced responses of single degree-of-freedom spring-mass-damper systems, vibration isolation; 4) Harmonic analysis; 5) Vibration measuring instruments; 6) Linear vibrations of multi-degree-of-freedom systems; 7) Analysis of continuous systems, wave equation, transverse vibration of strings, longitudinal/torsional vibration of bars and rods; 8) Gear kinematics, involute profile and involute action; Gear trains, epicyclic gears.
