Course Description: This course provides theoretical and empirical training for analyzing economic fluctuations, asset prices, and the interactions between the real economy and asset markets. It introduces various theoretical models and empirical methods to help understand the observed fluctuations in the aggregate economy and asset market variables such as stock prices, interest rates, and house prices. The fundamental aim is to provide analytical frameworks in which the asset market and the real economy can be jointly analyzed. Emphasis is placed on empirically analyzing various macroeconomic and financial indicators. Wherever appropriate, the role of government policy is discussed by examining both Australian and global economic events.
