Course Description: This course provides a detailed understanding of how the work of a broad range of social theorists contributes to a specifically sociological understanding of legal ideas, institutions and practices. After beginning with classical sociology, Durkheim, Marx and Weber, the course examines the contributions of the Frankfurt School, Habermas, Foucault, Bourdieu, Luhmann, Elias and Selznick, as well as the more recent perspectives of postmodern and feminist social theory.
