Course Description: This course introduces the principles of energy, air pollution, global climate change to understand the importance of various natural processes and human activities that shape the modern Earth and lead to global environmental change. The course examines the energy crisis, alternative energy, the promises of nuclear energy, the air pollution of different energy sources, and the global change they affected and the scientific bases for global change assessment and policy measures. Course topics include: energy use in an industrial society; fossil fuels; heat engines; renewable energy sources (solar energy, hydroelectricity and wind power) and alternatives; nuclear energy; energy conservation, intensity and efficiency; air pollution (gas phrase, particle and acid rain); and global effects. Assessment: attendance, oral presentation, final exam
