Course Description: This course provides an overview of the development of the arts in Spain from the Neolithic period to the 20th century, as well as a stylistic and cultural analysis of a variety of Spain’s monuments. Special attention is paid to the artistic heritage of different cultures in the Iberian peninsula, including Roman and Arabic influences, and to the importance of a number of architectural works, such as the mosque of Cordoba, the Alhambra of Granada, and El Escorial, as well as plastic artists, including El Greco, Velazquez, Picasso, and Dali, among others. Field trips to local museums and archaeological sites further enhance understanding of topics covered in the course.
