Course Description: This course offers a fundamental understanding of animal relationships and diversity through the comparison of morphological, physiological, developmental, ecological and life history characteristics of marine invertebrates. This comparative approach allows for explanation of natural patterns of biodiversity. Students also gain an appreciation of phylogenetic relationships of all the major animal phyla and many of the minor phyla. Laboratory exercises supplement the lectures and develop a range of skills.
