Course Description: The Northern and Tropical Queensland Tour is a 14 day Study Tour around central and northern Queensland held in the mid-year break (June/July). It is designed to examine a range of issues relating to the management of natural and rural systems in tropical and semiarid environments including: Protected area management, Environmental aspects of mining, Endangered species management, Visitor management, Cultural heritage management, Management of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage area. At the conclusion of the subject, students have an appreciation of the management of various natural and rural systems in the sub-tropical and tropical marine and terrestrial environments. Social, cultural, legal, economic, political and ecological perspectives within which management is conducted are considered. The majority of costs for the course are met by the University. Students are asked to contribute to food and ancillary costs.
