Course Description: Students undertaking this course investigate a project in a research environment under supervision of an experienced scientist. This gives them a unique opportunity to develop core research skills relevant to a wide spectrum of biological research, including written and oral communication, skills in making scientific observations, and recording and analysing data. Most likely, students work on a short field or laboratory project associated with their topic. Typically the project involves a small data-gathering assignment which is written up in the form of a short scientific paper including abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion and literature cited sections. Students must organize a Supervisor who should be an academic staff member within the School of Biological Sciences before they are allowed to enroll in this course.
