Course Description: This class explores women throughout China's history from political, legal, economic, social, and other perspectives. By investigating and comparing women from different classes, times, and stages of life, this class provides a comprehensive view of women and their importance in ancient China, while also looking at their impact on present-day China. Topics inlude the origin of the word "women" in Chinese; differences of women in Ancient China; theories of gender studies in society; female rulers and limitations in power in Ancient China; gender differences in society; ideal women in Ancient China; women in Qin through Tang Dynasty; women's right to inherit property in Ancient China; oppression and acceptance; Tang Dynasty women's attire and fashion; daily activities of women in the Tang Dynasty; illness and medicine of women in the Tang Dynasty.
