Course Description: This course examines interpreting practice and its complexity and diversity. Through study tours and hands-on practice opportunities, the course explores the world of interpretation in real life settings, and discusses the role and responsibility of the interpreters in society in a historical context. Emphasis is placed on capturing the act of interpreting as a way to enable intercultural communication and to analyze such practice from various angles. Assessment: class attendance (25%), class participation (25%), homework assignments and interpreting exercise (25%), and final exam (25%).
