Course Description: This course provides an opportunity to study the historical development of Japan’s industrial society and current issues that the Japanese economy faces today. The course covers from the agricultural economy in Edo era to so called “Abenomics”. Students are divided into industry-specific teams where they research comparative advantages of an industry by evaluating its strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Assessment: attendance and participation (20%), presentation (30%), midterm exam (25%), final exam (25%).
