Course Description: This course is an exploration of the political and philosophical thoughts of some of the seminal thinkers throughout ancient western civilization. It examines their writings in order to gain insight into the connections between each thinker and to more fully understand how they influenced each other and the nature of political and philosophical discourse. Topics covered in the course include the role of government, justice and the law, human nature, the human condition, and power. Assessment: class attendance and participation(15%), final paper (45%), midterm exam (40%).
