Course Description: This course surveys the major areas of forensic and criminal psychology, including (but not limited to) mental health law, forensic assessment, criminal behavior and theories thereof, and psychology of specific types of offenders. Psychologists who work within the legal system can assume and number of roles that include, but are not limited to, social scientists, consultants, and expert witnesses. Information provided via lecture and the text provides the student with a broad understanding of the impact that psychology can have on any one individual within the criminal justice system, as well as the impact that psychology can have on the legal system itself.
