Course Description: This course provides an overview of instructional design and technology (IDT) and the pedagogical applications of various types of media and technologies. It presents how to select and use appropriate media and technologies and make an effective systematic lesson plan based on one selected instructional design model. The course develops common understandings of the development of IDT in the historical context. It also presents recent applications and practices of educational technology and use selected online tools for communication and learning. Texts: Readings are assigned from various books such as THE SYSTEMATIC DESIGN OF INSTRUCTION by Walter Dick, Lou Carey, and James O. Carey, and TRENDS AND ISSUES IN INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY by Robert A. Reiser and John V. Dempsey. Assessment: class attendance and participation (10%), online quizzes (20%), two 500-word papers on teaching philosophy (10%), and microteaching project (60%).
