Course Description: This course develops a wider perspective and understanding of museum materials and collections not only as a museum visitor but also a museum professional. The course presents the nature of museum collections from the viewpoint of collection management, conservation, restoration and exhibition; discusses various problems in regards to handling museum materials. Emphasis is placed on examining the Hachiro Yuasa Memorial Museum and Taizanso on the ICU campus. Some books are assigned as references such as HAKUBUTSUKAN NO NOZOMASHII SUGATA SERIES 2 SHIRYOU TORIATSUKAI NO TEBIKI by Japanese Association of Museum, and TAIZAINSO MATSUURA TAKESHIRO NO ICHIJOJIKI NO SEKAI by Henry Smith and edited by Hachiro Yuasa Memorial Museum. Assessment: class participation (10%), homework assignments (30%), two to five 4-8 page papers (30%), and final presentation (30%).
