Course Description: This course introduces cultural translation and its focus on the overlapping of text and meaning in shifts in temporal, spatial, technological, and linguistic contexts. The course explores the way contexts shift through a study of transcultural adaptations; provides understanding of the particular contours of cultural translation found in transcultural film adaptations; and discusses how they change and why they endure in cinematic retellings in different contexts. Assessment: class participation including completion and submission of a handout each class (60%) and final paper (40%).
