Course Description: This course outlines different approaches to the study of identity, ethnicity and nationalism in global politics. The relevance and importance of identity in the study of global politics are considered along with theories of ethnicity and nationalism. Texts: Readings are assigned from various books such as IMAGINED COMMUNITIES by Benedict Anderson, and NATIONS AND NATIONALISM by Ernest Gellner. Assessment: class participation (10%), midterm exam (20%), and two 5-page research papers (70%).
