Course Description: This course surveys the basic concepts, findings and methodology of contemporary psychology. The course traces the development of psychology from early philosophical teachings to the scientific psychology as is known today. The course also explores the field of psychology and teaches some basic skills in logical thinking and scientific research. Participation in a real psychology experiment and experiencing psychology at work are a highlight of the course. Texts: PSYCHOLOGY: A VERY SHORT INTRODUCTION by Freda McManus and Gillian Butler; MODERN PSYCHOLOGY: HUMAN NATURE AND SCIENCE OF BEHAVIOR edited by Mikitoshi Isozaki. Assessment: class attendance (20%), midterm exam (40%), and final exam (40%).
