Course Description: This course discusses topics related to population, natural resources, and the environment in China. Focus is on current situation, challenges, and future tendency of China‚Äôs population, natural resources and the environment; environmental issues related to population growth and resources utilization; technologies, policies, and strategies to deal with environmental challenges. Lecture topics: China's energy consumption and environmental impact; water resources and water pollution; air pollution in China; soil and groundwater contamination; greenhouse gas emissions and climate change; sustainable development strategies; and environmental management and legal system in China. Assessment: attendance (10%), discussions (20%), midterm (30%), final (40%).
