Course Description: | The purpose of this course is to provide a working knowledge of the concepts, mathematics, and basic results of quantum mechanics. The course covers basic quantum theory, atomic and molecular structure, equilibrium statistical thermodynamics. Topics include the principles and mathematics tools in quantum mechanics, one-dimensional problems, particle-in-box, harmonic oscillator, angular momentum theory, spin, perturbation theory, and introduction to methods of modern electronic structure theory, with applications in atomic and molecular structures, spectroscopy, and chemical bonding. Mathematics background especially linear algebra is reviewed and used in this course. |
