Course Description: This course emphasizes cultural connotations and artistic characteristics implicated in classic art works. The objectives of this course are to cultivate the ability of admiring classic masterpieces, to deepen understanding of European culture, and to exalt aesthetic tastes. Topics include an introduction to art (physical creation, color charm, flowing lines, and visual arts and culture); Aegean, ancient Greek, Etruscan, and Roman art (architecture, sculpture, and painting); Gothic, Byzantine, and Romanesque art; Renaissance Art (Giotto, Masaccio, Donatello, Botticelli, Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Bellini, Giorgione, Titan, Veronese, and Tintoretto); Baroque art (Italian, Spanish, French, and Nordic); Rococo; Neoclassical; Romantic; Realism; and Impressionism.
