Course Description: This course takes students from zero knowledge of Sesotho to a good, basic competency in the language. The course actively engages students in acquiring the language through a series of well developed modules with an integrated approach to acquiring speaking, writing, and comprehension skills in Sesotho. The course explains grammar in context and students apply their grammatical knowledge in task-based communication situations. Students learn about different varieties of Sesotho and how to use these appropriately in social contexts. Students also study cultural issues through readings and classroom activities. Assessment: coursework (35%), orals (15%), final exam (50%).
