Course Description: This course explores the contribution of sociological and criminological analyses to the understanding of both the causes underlying crime and deviance as well as possible solutions to the crime problem. Students examine how a select number of crime problems have become constructed and acted upon in urban South Africa. Assessment: class project (25%), essay (25%), final exam (50%).
