Course Description: The course explores the economy of developing countries. Based on the theory of developing economics, students investigate ten issues in the areas of agriculture, forestry, water recourses, land, mineral resourses, energy, finance, human capital, environment, and entrepreneurship. The course utilizes economic models to examine the impact of growth on the environment, technology, markets, and political and economic decisions in developing countries. It also discusses the impact of the world economy, with regards to economic problems, opportunities, and challenges. Assessment: attendance (15%); class performance and homework (20%), final papers (65%).
