Course Description: This course covers the basic theory and methodology for Shan Shui Hua, a style of traditional Chinese painting that depicts natural scenery including mountains, streams, and waterfalls. The course focuses on art appreciation and the standards for evaluating traditional Chinese Shan Shui Hua. Through hands on practice, technical and artistic skills are improved. Specific topics include mountain and rock painting; tree painting; waterfall and stream painting; cloud and smoke painting; and mountain and stream Gou Tu. Assessment: midterm thesis and final piece of work.
