Course Description: This course provides a study of cell biology, one of the most important sub-disciplines of life science. Topics include uniformity and diversity of the cell; techniques and methodology of cell biology; structure, function, and biosynthesis of cellular membranes and organelles; cell growth, proliferation, differentiation, and oncogenic transformation; cell signaling; endomembrane system; protein sorting and membrane trafficking; energy generation in mitochondria and chloroplasts; cytoskeleton and movements across cell membranes; nucleus and chromosomes; pathogens, infection, and innate immunity; the cell cycle; apoptosis and cell death; and cell sociology. Assessment: homework (5-10 assignments) 40%, final 60%.
