Course Description: This is an intermediate English linguistics course which should be taken after studying the basics of linguistics. This course offers both the theoretical and practical knowledge of English language teaching with a special emphasis on the making and practical use of English dictionaries and grammar. To be a good English teacher is to be a good user of English in real communication. This course first considers how to improve proficiency in English in a variety of communicative situations. It then investigates how knowledge of English (not only structural but also communicative) can be used to improve learners’ abilities to use English. A main topics of discussion is to investigate how lingistics corpora have been made and in what ways we can use them to make teaching materials and other tools of assessing language skills, such as tests and quizzes.
