Course Description: This is the first course in a new series of Japanese language courses called the Step by Step Series being offered by ICU that are less intensive. This beginning Japanese language coure is for students with one quarter of Japanese language or the equivalent. It covers basic Japanese in everyday life, focusing on familiar expressions and phrases; how to read and write 100 kanji, blogs, and emails, as well as interact at shops, restaurants, and in the workplace. Students practice new grammatical patterns with new vocabulary in dialogues and role plays. Additionally, students practice reading texts and writing passages along with using Moodle, an e-learning platform, to facilitate learning. Assessment: continuous assessment which includes quizzes, assignments, etc. (50%), midterm exam (15%), and final exam (35%)
