Course Description: The course teaches how to use a the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software which is one of the most commonly used statistical software packages in the fields of sociology, political science, psychology, social work, and education. The course covers how to analyze survey data statistically starting with simple analyses. The course is for student to learn to write a research paper employing statistical analyses. Students choose a research topic, conduct a literature review, analyze the ANES data, and write a research paper. Through this course, students learn how to analyze survey data using basic methods such as cross tabulations, comparison of means, and correlations. Students will be required to choose a set of variables from the data set and to analyze the relationships between variables. Assessment: quizzes and assignments.
