Course Description: This course provides skills for conversation, reading and writing, and the ability to use Japanese accurately and appropriately with increasing spontaneity in social and public situations relevant to college life. The course teaches how to follow everyday conversation and understand speaker's intension and mood, and deliver a brief speech with notes. Outcomes: read about 400 kanji and texts with unfamiliar words, and write about 250 kanji and comments and descriptions of events and facts. Text: JAPANESE FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS: BASIC, vol 3 by International Christian University. Assessment: homework assignments (20%), quizzes (10%), lesson tests (25%), and final exam (45%).
