Course Description: This course uses anthropological and sociological approaches to analyze the effects of technologies on human life. Students view the lived experience of technology in different cultural contexts, exploring such topics as biotechnologies, communications technologies, robotics, and energy policies. In this way, students examine the shifting boundaries between the human and non-human, and the natural and artificial. At the conclusion of the course, students develop an understanding of the assumptions about humanity that underpin central debates within the study of technology.
