Course Description: This course, like the law itself, is neutral and views business from every reasonable perspective. The course examines national and international laws that provide the vital, defining principles that structure the core elements of modern businesses and impact or control their operations. These principles of law define the corporation itself as a limited liability entity, the nature and use of the most important assets of modern business (intellectual property), much of the character of the relationships that exist among businesses, the relationship between officers and directors and the businesses they control, the relationship between management and labor, the relationship between businesses and their customers, the relationship between businesses and governments, and the relationship between businesses and the general (non-customer) public in environmental and other laws that generally regulate the operations of businesses. Assessment: midterm exam (25%), final exam (50%), attendance and participation (25%).
