Course Description: We have the ancient history of 4,000 years during 5,000 years of civilizations. Ancient Mediterranean Civilization is considered one of the most important civilizations. An understanding of the Mediterranean sea and coasts is integral for understanding civilization. Almost all that sets us above savages has been attributed to those shores. For example, television and washing machines would be traced back to the mechanical devices which were discovered in ancient Alexandria. From the viewpoint of world history, therefore, this course explains that a huge proportion of our civilized heritage came to us from the ancient Mediterranean (Mesopotamia, Egypt, Syria, Greece and Rome) and has given remarkable influences on other areas and civilizations of medieval and modern times.
