Course Description: This course provides a broad overview of the field of conflict analysis and resolution, investigating a wide range of theoretical frameworks, examining a series of debate about intervention, and analyzing a variety of intermediary efforts by the United Nations, NGOs and other relevant institutions for peacebuilding. This course also introduces the field of conflict analysis and resolution by presenting a summary of the literature; presents a whole list of intermediary efforts ranging from coercive measures to nonviolent ones; identifies problems and challenges facing the field in order to grasp the realities and dilemmas posed by actual conflict situations; and presents conceptual frameworks useful in analyzing various types of peace initiatives. Assessment: final exam (30%), papers (35%), class participation (10%), presentations (25%).
