Course Description: This course examines Berlin's cultural history of the last two centuries through short texts and stories. These excerpts both reflect and provide an insight into the culture and society of the times in which they were written. Topics include Heinrich Heine's LETTERS FROM BERLIN, the consequences of industrialization, World War II, and the separation and reunification of Germany. Students read weekly texts, actively contribute in class, and participate in an excursion. .
