Course Description: This course offers a study of religion and globalization. The course explores the theoretical approaches to religion, ritual, and cosmology, as well as insights into religious ethnological research in the context of globalization and transnationalism. The course is separated into two distinct portions. The first portion of the course discusses key concepts of the anthropology of religion, including classical studies. The second portion examines religious perceptions, ritual practices, and cosmological ideas in transnational contexts with current ethnographic studies. Students review case studies of transnationalism religious beliefs, ritual practices, and cosmologies in rural and urban areas in the Americas and in Europe in the context of migration and globalization.
