Course Description: This course examines the underlying structure of scientific explanation; provides understanding of the key concepts used in physics to be able to look at physics from a philosophical standpoint; and presents how to examine science-related issues from a critical point of view in order to discuss scientific topics from an educated standpoint. Topics vary each term but may include laws of motion, microscopic equations of substances; electric and magnetic fields; and estimation of Maxwell's equation. Assessment: weekly quizzes (30%), three short papers in Japanese (30%), and final exam (40%).
