Course Description: Music has been dramatically shaped and reshaped by every major change in communications technology in the 20th century, from vinyl discs to MP3s. In this course, students analyze how the early recording industry transformed jazz, the blues, and country music; how the presentation of music on radio and television changed how the music industry created new musical celebrities; and the challenges the music industry faces as digital technology transforms the creation, distribution, and consumption of music.
