Course Description: This course introduces the basic concepts and approaches in world literature studies and explores the production, translation, and circulation of representative pieces of world literature. It focuses on dialogues across diverse linguistic, cultural, and national contexts and encourages the development of emotional and activity-based relationship with the texts. Course readings include works by Lu Xun, Nikolai Gogol, Edgar Allen Poe, Ezra Pound, Marcel Proust, Virginia Woolf, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and many more. Assessment: participation, group presentation, experiential learning activity, midterm essay (500 words minimum), final exam.
