Course Description: This course surveys the major marine living organisms, their habitat, community structures, adaptation, inter-species interactions, trophic interactions, and the marine ecosystem. Emphasis is on ecological processes and adaptations that act to structure marine associations and permit their persistence through time. Topics include the marine environment, phytoplankton ecology, harmful algal blooms, zooplankton ecology, ocean Nekton ecology, pelagic ecosystem dynamics, estuarine environment, intertidal ecology, rocky shore ecology, mudflat and sandy beach ecology, coral reef ecology, marine bioactive compounds and marine biotechnology, marine aquaculture in China, wetland ecology, subtidal ecology, and deepsea ecology.
